How we started
In November 2009 a small group of Business Women in Nelson Bay started a networking group for business women across the Port Stephens area. The membership steadily grew and in 2015 we had 48 members in the Port Stephens area meeting on a regular basis.
The future direction of the group is determined by the membership, and in 2013 our strategic direction included our commitment to our local community. Each year we identify areas of interest to our membership, and arrange guest speakers and presentations to align with these interests. We seek to provide useful and practical information that will help you with your business.
Mentoring of other women in business
Starting a business can be a daunting experience, and we promote and mentor those who are interested in starting up their own business for the first time to help them make a success of their venture. Those who have been involved in any type of mentoring will attest to the benefits this can bring to all parties involved.
We give back to our community via mentoring of young people, supplying work experience, offering services for charitable groups, and fund raising for specific local groups. In 2015 we supported the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group and the Yacaaba Centre with the profits from our fundraising events.
What we do
We currently have over 200 women on our database receiving our Monthly Newsletter and useful business links. These women also are able to attend a monthly meeting where they can listen to guest speakers, network with like-minded women and build lasting relationships with others in the Port Stephens area.
Our members are invited to present their business to the members, and our web-site presents the opportunity of uploading a snapshot of your business, notifying members of special offers or events that you are having, accessing our expert opinion section for notes provided by our speakers and expert blogs, and linking with other networks and organisations relevant to business in the Port Stephens area.
Our aim is for women to make friends, have some fun and network in a friendly and comfortable “no pressure” environment. If you wish to hand out your business cards and promote your business you can; if you are interested in just coming along, meeting people and gaining some information to help you in your business then you can do this also.
We are a fully incorporated, not-for-profit organisation.
