DISC centre on 4 different behavioural traits: Dominance Influence Support Caution DISC is designed to help people get to know themselves, others and behaviour in interpersonal situations. It is about making better communication with others. Helen will help us all understand our own behavioural traits and those of others and we will apply this in our real life situation, along with planning for PSWIB membership. Helen will also facilitate a quick exercise to establish a consensus with regard to our PSWIB Meetings and Membership. This will be a fun and enjoyable meeting as we collaborate and establish decisions around what PSWIB is about and how we will benefit in the future!
I first became involved with Port Stephens Women in Business through another member who also had connections with a local community group. At the time I had recently come to live in the Bay, buy a business which is family owned and run and hadn’t had time to make new connections with other business people and women with similar interests. Port Stephens Women in Business has enabled me and other members of my family to interact and network with other businesses in the area and also enjoy the camaraderie of women involved with a large variety of both small and larger businesses. Monthly guest speakers have contributed to my knowledge of legal, insurance, marketing, time management and organisation, financial, corporate, taxation and accounting matters as well as personal issues relating to women in the workforce. PSWIB has enabled me to gain confidence and find a sense of place within the local community and has provided invaluable insight into how women approach running businesses at the same time as running households. I would recommend PSWIB as an excellent way to bond with other women in a friendly and fun environment – education with laughter!
Being a WIB gal. In 2014 when we were in the process of buying the Australian Shark & Ray Centre, We decided to do meet some other business owners at a PSWIB event. What a wonderful idea that was, we haven’t looked back. We discovered its not t just business owners, there is such a variety, a support network, new friends, fun times, great locations, food and of course- wine! What’s not to like love?
When i commenced work as the local Bank Manager for Westpac in Nelson Bay 6 years ago, I searched for a local networking group for like minded, passionate and career focussed working woman. At that stage, there was a small group of women having a dinner once a month and after speaking to a few of the ladies we decided to ramp this up to a professional networking group. We set to work forming “Port Stephens Women In Business”, having regular monthly meetings with informative guest speakers, networking, and lot’s of laughs and friendships formed. As the years went by we added fundraising to our calendar and for years have been holding successful fundraisers in support of local charities. Being a member of Port Stephens Women In Business has provided me the encouragement I needed to step out of the corporate world and commence my own successful Port Stephens Mortgage broking business with the encouragement, knowledge, support and friendship of the members. I encourage all local women in business, whether running your own business, or working in someone else’s, to join Port Stephens Women In Business and enjoy the many great benefits that membership has to offer.
